On October 31st, 2009 the RIU Guanacaste
officially opened its
doors for business. I
had all intentions of
visiting the hotel
sooner, but travel kept
me from seeing the newly
completed hotel until
three weeks ago.
Franklin Chang Diaz, a
National Hero

I had the honor of
meeting Franklin Chang
Diaz this past weekend
during a book signing in
my office complex. He
was kind enough to speak
with me and take a photo
together. I found him to
be very nice and
down-to-earth. The Ticos
look up to him as a
National Hero and a
living legend of sorts.
Many foreigners have no
idea who he is or what
his importance is to
this country.
Bilingual Pre-School at
the Beach
It was a bittersweet day
today. Our son Kian
Zachary, who is just shy
of 2 years, started in
pre-school. If you can
imagine, he didn’t cry
and in fact LOVED
school. I have to say I
was sad to drop him off,
but they tell me that is
normal!
Luxury home tax may
influence political
campaign...
Foreign owners of
property here and Costa
Ricans are just waking
up to the fact that the
luxury home tax will
take a bite out of their
wallet this Christmas
season.
It
took approximately 5
weeks to receive
payment.
(Costa Rica Insurance
Woes)
The payment was made
out to the owner of the
car, which was a
corporation. In order to
cash this check, I had
to get a personeria
juridica (document
showing who is
registered at the legal
representatives of a
Costa Rican corporation)
showing I was the
President of such
corporation.
